Last Day of 2009
It is finally the last day of the year 2009.
It was truly a year filled with mixed feelings. With so much things that I had went through in just one year, I can't determine whether I should be disappointed, happy, or just be sad that this year is coming to an end.
So much stuff had happened, that I had even turned too lazy to blog about them. ~_~
Oh well. Anyway, I am about to start the year 2010 with a bang! - By going back to Tekong for my recourse BMT for another 2 months *woo-hoo~!*

Makino Yui's concert in Singapore!
I was out virtually the whole time yesterday, attending my good pal's wedding as one of the groom's men. Quite a number of things happened, and with the photos only coming on a later date, I will just leave that subject to blog about another day.
So while I was out, a letter specifically addressed to me came slotting into my home mailbox. Now, the last time someone sent me a non-digital envelope was from the government sector. And that I wasn't pleased to receive.
Fortunately this time round it was from someone called "EXCEPTional" - god knows who they are, but I sure do know what the content inside was...
*drum roll ensues*
MAKINO YUI'S SINGAPORE CONCERT TICKET!!!(more information on Makino Yui here)
...Honestly speaking, I actually all but forgotten about this ticket purchase. This ticket I am holding is priced at S$79, with $2 booking charge, and $1 mail fee. I wanted to save that $1 mailing, but even collecting it from booth cost a dollar... seriously, what the heck?
My seat (row) price is under the second tier range, while the most expensive cost $99. I like Makino Yui, but as of now, only Mizuki Nana will get me to buy the first tier seat.
Still, to actually make me spend money on a ticket (2nd tier too!) just goes to show that Makino Yui is pretty high up in my personal chart.
Phew, it is a good thing I bought that Makino Yui's cd album on the recent Japan trip. It was a freaking last minute impulsive purchase too, because something inside me kept urging me to get it. Never in the world did I foresee that the real person would actually come to this island, so darn lucky I got the cd for her to autographed it.

Been very busy with life.
There's now a big backlog for blog updates. The Seoul/Japan trip, AFA'09, WeiB Schwarz outings etc. And not to mention many more events to come.

NS sucks - weekends are just not enough!
I am so freaking busy lately. There is just so much things I want/need to do, and most of them can only be done OUTSIDE of camp. Which is how today's post title derived from. NS sucks - and it is literally sucking away almost all my weekdays free time!!
Or maybe it is just because I got poor time management skill. =_=
Nah, I will just simply blame NS. It sounds cooler.
Anyway, I went out with a few dudes that I only met for the first time yesterday, to watch the Evangelion 2.0 movie - "You can (not) advance". It happened that I recently got myself involved in a small anime group in the Mindef forum, and they then invited me to join them for their movie outing. So I was like "Why not?" and hence went along. =P
Pretty entertaining episode, and much better than the first movie. Probably because I watched this in the cinemas, unlike the previous one where I caught it on a really small tv screen.
I won't say much, go read the bazillion reviews out there on the net if you interested. And check out the trailer that I have attached after this sentence.
The guys from the Mindef "anime club" were a bunch of interesting people. I haven't actually id all of their faces and names yet, so maybe more future group activities and I will know them better.
I was saying that I wanted to post about my Seoul/Tokyo trip. Yea, I will do it on the next post, I promise. I got the photos ready, but didn't want to clash with this article. Let me do it this coming friday.

Back to Singapore and NS
Finally, after a 8 days trip to Seoul & Tokyo I am back home. Was supposed to return on Sunday, but had to overstay by a day as the initial plane was packed.
It was a typical trip, for mostly the Japan segment, with tons of shopping and eating. I haven't actually started unpacking my stuff, so I will throw in the photos and describe my trip in more details on a future post entry.
Gonna report back to camp soon. Hmm, strangely, I actually missed that place a little... but it still feels like a chore just to book in. ~_~

PS3 down, and going overseas
Phew.
Been a while since I last updated, hasn't it?
You know how it works - the more busy I am in real life, the less likely I am updating... even though that usually means I have a lot of things to talk about, but never the time to write them down. ~_~
Anyway, this is yet another sudden and short notice. I am leaving for Seoul, and a few days later, to Tokyo, in an hour time. Going for another holiday, after the six months period that was my last trip. I will be back by to this sunny island on 091109.
Yesterday, I purchased my fifth PS3 game title: "Agarest Senki"...
This title pretty much slipped under my radar, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it on the shelves. I figured I would get back home and play the night away, before I leave for overseas.
That was the plan, until my PS3 ate my Agarest Senki dvd and refused to eject, nor even read the disc. Accompanied with some crazy spark from the machine, and a faint smell that reminds me of melting plastic... ... #$@!&%
So I was then stuck with a working PS3, but one that cannot play any game for the most probable reason: the bluray drive motor died.
To cut the long story short, I spent half the Sunday today traveling back and fro from home to get my PS3 serviced. Thankfully there was a 1-year warranty still covering it.
Though, I got to say it was a freaking coincidence that 6mths ago, I purchased this PS3 before I left for my holiday. Now it just had to break down when I am about to go away. Arrggh.
Anyway, got to run now... oh, and Happy Halloween!

My 23rd Birthday!
Today marks the twenty-third year of my life...
...*pauses for a while to think of some bombastic word to insert*

Ah, screw fanciful vocab! I suck at blogging. Let's just summarize my day in my usual "no-frill" writing style:
So I woke up at 0900hr and got changed for my lunch-cum birthday bash over at "Irodori", a Japanese ala-carte style restaurant located inside Riverview Hotel, Havelock Road. The night earlier, I was level-grinding my characters in the PS3 srpg Disgaea 3 like there was no tomorrow, so I lacked sleep and looked as fresh as an overripe banana.
Zoomed down few hours later, and the ten of my relatives plus me finally finished our big feast at around 1500hr. Cue the chocolate birthday cake and we left the place with over-bloated tummies. I collected a handful of red packets, and being a gaming-nerd with new found money, all I could think of was buying "Mana Khemia 2" for the PS2 that had hit my local game store today!
There was still time till night, I had a choice of going to Plaza Singapura with my mum, or to my cousin/godsister's friend's birthday bash over at Aloha Loyang chalet (c0mplicated). Wanting to try something different (and maybe wanting to pick up a chick's number, or two), I went along with my cousin as a somewhat uninvited guest.
Things didn't went well, and I found myself blowing countless balloons at the chalet. It was my way of helping out with the party set up, but if you would think about it, that was weird for another birthday boy (me) was doing the "sai-kang" and not enjoying himself. I finished the job eventually, and went to take a stroll at the nearby beach with my cousin and her two rather lovely girl-friends. Absolutely nothing happen though, and I could only smacked myself in the face for the total failure of even introducing myself. OH WELL.
Left early because I needed to drop by at the game shop to collect my goods. The dudes at the shop were particularly generous today, and gave me a discount of S$3.00 for the game when I told them it was my birthday. Sweet!

Oh yea, I went over to the Army Open House at Pasir Lebar camp. I got excited over it for nothing. Not very worth going, especially if you are not in a guided tour. It will still be on until 7th Sept, if anyone is still keen on going.

NE tour on Friday
About thirty of us NSFs from 23SA went for our half-annual (?) National Education trip, on a Friday morning.
This time, it was revisit the war memorials and history of mainly two places: Labrador Battery site (kinda related to artillery), and Pasir Panjang battle site. I was actually rather excited to go on the outing, not because it was a half-day for us, but it was those rare times I get to go on a guided tour to places in Singapore I won't likely be bothered to visit on my own.
Oh, and I didn't have to pay for anything... except for that fried rice I ordered midway for S$3. =(
I had no camera in my possession, so no luck with photos on my side. There were photos taken by the escorting 2LT in the group, but those photos are a little "hard" for me to access.
Anyway, I won't go into my experience during the trip - though all I would like to say that it was quite the interesting tour. Ahh, a pity it ended so quickly.
Though, what really stood out for me was this:
That was one of the many heritage tablet thingie (or whatever they call it) situated around the island. It marks the location of existing historical sites. Very interesting - reminds me of some relic you go searching around in a sidequest for a role-playing video game. =P
Speaking of rpgs, here is something to rock the socks out of Persona 3 fans!!

Army Half Marathon '09
For the Marathon last year, I participated as a helper and rotted for one night over at East Coast Park. This year however, I went as a runner - though only for the 6km section.
The reporting time for 6km was 8am, but the 23SA dudes wanted to be kiasu a little, and had us turn up one hour earlier. After some "stoning", the 6km run finally commenced, and off we ran... or walk actually. I brisk-walked all the way, achieving a quick 1-hr completion time! I was so pumped at that time, I felt I could take on the actual 21km too.
Serious. ~_~
So all we got was a half-day off on the following Monday. Cheapskate. The 21km runners got the whole day off though - I should have so participated for that. Blah.

MC coming to an end...
Today marks the last day of my 14 days medical off. My first MC in the army, and probably the last one I will ever be getting. XP
I should have mentioned that the MC was given to me to let me recover from a minor toe injury I had two weeks ago. Something to do with forcefully plucking out my big toenail and other details.
I am definitely not all happy and looking forward to returning to camp, but my superior have been calling me like almost everyday to ask me when I can go back and resume work. Bleh.
I even went back on three separate days to work on my own initiative, though I don't know if anyone actually appreciates that. I am not bragging about myself, but seriously, where the hell can you find such a responsible and hardworking (aka stupid) worker? Haha~
Oh and, yay for me! Ten more months to my ORD!! Now I can finally count the months with my two hands *glee*

Got me an iMAC!
So I finally made the switch from intel/windows to mac about two weeks ago.
Had to buy a new computer because both my desktop and laptop finally broke down for the very last time. That was the very last straw, for both my old coms, and my hopes of windows too.
With an installment plan for two years, totaling to a price of S$1977, this was the 20inch iMac I quickly purchased:
Although the cheapest (and smallest) model of the range currently available, the monitor's size is still much significantly wider than my previous 17" screen. Setting up was as painless as possible, and it took a hardware-idiot like me only ten minutes. I switched the apple mouse for my razer model though - the former felt too small for my large hand. =P
Like what everyone else with a mac told me, the interface is pretty smooth to use, and applications are as user-friendly as it gets. Though, for a windows user of ten years, it took me quite some time for me to get use to.
^I learned how to print screen, something I took for granted when using windowsOverall, I have been happy with my new iMac. However to be honest, the iMac isn't for everyone. There are many reasons NOT to get a mac (as windows is still the superior OS imo), but screw that, the mac's OS-X is good enough for me~

Farewell, Nicky...
This is a post dedicated to the unfortunate incident on 030709 which took the life of a particular NSF: article link.
I would have typed this a lot earlier, if my acer laptop didn't just break down for shit.
The late 2LT was my closest cousin's cousin. Almost no blood relation here, but I heard so much stories about him from my relatives in the past years, that it made me felt I knew him a little.
Just a year younger than me, Nicholas (or, Nicky) was in Temasek Polytechnic while I was studying there. He even enlisted around the same time as I did into the army. Alas, our paths were distinctly different. And of all that, my first real meeting with him would actually be on his very deathbed.
So I saw him face to face at his wake last sunday; two days after the ill-fated incident. I had visualized the look of a suave young man, as shown on his funeral portrait, taken while he had his proud no.1 uniform on.
However, reality was an ungracious beast, leaving the poor dude an awkwardly swollen head - due to all the blood that rushed to his head when he was crushed by the rover.
Yep. Went over by a land rover. Probably his first out-camp assignment as a 2LT too. The only child of the family. Leaving behind his parents, and faithful girlfriend too, who continued to stay by his side throughout his funeral.
A guy with so much dreams and potentials, but all robbed from him from a single freak accident.
Our meeting may have been insignificant, however, rest well in my memories, for I shall never forget you...

Well, the trip to the land of the rising sun this time round was quite an tiring one; one with A LOT of trekking around the less-urbanized areas, such as Tateyama Alpen . I didn't even get to buy much for myself, but I already predicted that to happen anyway (aka low funds).

Leaving for Japan tonight
Last minute post!!!
I seriously should kick this bad habit of doing stuff at the very last moment. Oops
Anyway, I am going for a 8 day overseas vacation to Japan. Popping down to Tokyo, then moving on the the more rural regions for sightseeing. I HIGHLY doubt I will have much spending money this trip round, since I need to buy a few souvenirs back for my commanders and fellow colleagues, plus the fortune I recently squandered away on.... ahem, the PS3!!!
Yep, you read me right. I just got myself a frickin' 3rd generation console; a Playstation 3~!
The price for the set wasn't too bad - $555, but I got myself a few games to go with it...
Let's just leave it to your imagination on how much the total cost went up to. It ain't pretty. XP

^A few of us from the Logistic side; the rest are no showsI mentioned this one on my previous post... I think. Basically our 23SA decided to have an outing that involves paddling down the river. I wasn't actually in the mood to row a boat so I just went over and showed my presence. And eat free lunch. The whole event lasted one Friday morning.

It came with a half-day "deal" too, so everyone was definitely cheery on that certain Friday.

^23SA signal store!This gathering primary purpose was to serve as a final coercion for the last mono-intake men who were to ORD in March. This one in particular had our unit's CO as the main organizer for the event. An entire karaoke lounge was booked for our use, and we were allowed to sing and/or have free flow to drinks. The (abovementioned) Eugene decided to make a greater fool of himself in front of the CO. Hilarity ensued.

It was a relaxing week~
Last week went by like a breeze, I say.
I was back in my unit and resumed normal working days for Mon, Tues. The difference however, was that much of the battalion were going to ORD (in a week or less) and thus very little work needed to be done - except signing bazillion clearance form.
My 2IC was on off, and my IC got his personal stuff to settle, so us storemen were left to our own vices. Needless to say.... SLACK!!!
Then came Wednesday, which the HQ side (including me) went over to Changi Chapel for NE tour. A very sudden visit for me, so I knew nothing about it until the very last minute. Quite a nice place to be in, and free admission too! Peeps should check it out if you are near Pasir Ris/Changi area.
Was a half-day outing, and we got the rest free to ourselves. PROFIT!
Thursday was our QM coersion day. Slack for most of the morning, then we shoved our lazy bums over to North Point's Swensen for lunch. Meals on the house, in courtesy of our good ol' S4. Under a limit of S$17 pax, of course though. I had Chicken Mushroom Spaghetti, I think. Oh yea, did I say it was a half-day, too?
*We took numerous photos, and I DID told my IC to send me the pics... but I guess he forgot about it. Haha..... sigh.
And there was Friday. Our entire QM applied for OFF. Woots~!
Though, all things will eventually come to an end, and that include the good moments. And so I am BACK again in camp, on a Sunday morning - because I got duties to settle. Cheh.
Hmm... time to play on how to use my 14 day leaves + 20 day offs. I want to go Japan to watch Mizuki Nana's live concert!!!

Back to work
I officially completed my SA Comms course last Thursday. I was supposed to return to unit on Friday, but there was a half-day coercion and I ended up going to Kallang for some dragon-boating. I will therefore be going back to my daily work routine starting tonight.
Ah~ I miss my slacking days in course already.
Chinese New Year went by just as quickly as it came. Out of the first two days of house visiting, I accumulated a total of S$700+ worth of HongBaos. Almost twice my monthly pay from NS. =P

Happy 29th Birthday, Nana-sama~!
It is the 21st of January, and it's that time of the year..... my favorite seiyuu/idol Mizuki Nana's birthday! Woo~hoo
In all honesty I almost missed it. With a stroke of luck, or some sort, I decided to check up on Nana's blog and fansites after ignoring them for a whole month long, and bam! Instant enlightenment. =D
So I thought I would commemorate this special day by ordering her latest single "Shin Ai" over the net. Unfortunately every decent site I know (barring YesAsia) have crazy shipping fees which goes up to like, 2000 yen. Darn! That's almost equivalent to S$30+, just for the cost shipment! And my cd only costs around 1200yen.
The thought of pricey fees shafted my intitial plans. I will just make the order tomorrow though, along with her Live Fighter dvd. Might as well buy something else too, to make up for the already outrageous shipping cost. =P
Oh, and onto my "real life". SA Comms course is actually fun, and SUPER relaxing/slack. Ah, how I wish the rest of my NS life would be this easygoing. I think I am getting too comfortable with my current stay-out entitlement.
And I just completed Persona 4!! AWESOME~!

First Entry for '09
Too mentally-exhausted to type a proper post, so let me sum up the stuff that happened around me recently, in simple point form:
- Logistic Audit, Stock-taking and Safety check all together for the whole last week
- Managed to pull off an overall "A" grade for our Signal Store (thank God)
- Went for a lame cohesion trip with the entire battalion for bowling on Friday
- PS2 power adapter blew, and had to buy a new one for S$50 (daylight robbery!!)
- Will be attending Signal Comms course for the next two weeks (until 29 Jan)
Good job, ZW. As if the previous CMPB complaint case wasn't enough, now MINDEF is going to keep a close eye on our future actions. =P
