To 2007 !!!!!!!

haizzzz...

So the time I am typing this is less than an hour to a new day. And this day marks the beginning of a new year... and this very moment is something special for everybody; in a sense that we aim to start everything afresh, and make our list of resolution in preparation to the new year.

But technically, the first day (hour) of a new year is no difference than any other day. It is only by a calendar that we mark this specific day of the year as something special = so man (based on the Earth movement around the Sun) practically created this 'eventful' day. Well, that doesn't really make sense, so I will stop here LoL.

---------------------

Anyway, since I was talking about resolutions, I should also place my list of things I hope I can achieve. So here goes.....*dum-dum-dum

I WANT TO SERIOUSLY AND REALLY IMPROVE MY ART TECHNIQUE(S) GREATLY !!!one!1!!1

Haha. I bet you didn't see that coming.
That's right. Me, twenty yrs old guy. I am not getting any younger. And out of the past 5 years drawing, I am still nowhere far from an amateur. DARN. So I really need to buck up. Plus, there's the dreaded 2yrs army crap awaiting me soon.

So how should I work on my single, yet omgwtfbbq-hard resolution? I had it kinda planned. It simply revolves around me doing drawing/art at least 5hrs a day, daily, for the next 6 months, starting from 1st Jan 07.

That means severe cutting of gaming hours, idling/slacking, and maybe sleep. Plus probably doing sloppy work for my school assignments. Who cares.

If I do really accomplish that feat though, I bet by the end of it, I will probably either:
- turn crazy
- become a 100%+ better artist

I REALLY hope for the second outcome ><

Oh crap, that's all the time I have for today! Need to make the standard end-of-year-to-start-of-new-year wish!! The one that doesn't come true, but we all still pretend it actually works. So, me wishes everyone:

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Eminence : PASSION [Dec 23]

I was going to blog about this yesterday, as promised. I fell asleep though, so you get it today instead.

PASSION is an instrumental performance done by an Aussie group Eminence. The founder is actually a Japanese gentleman by the name of Hiroaki Yura, who was also the lead violinist of the night's show. What is different from them to other classical orchastra is that they play game, anime music instead of the usual classical fare. Yasunori Mitsuda, music composer of numerous games, arrived as guest too, and his appearance alone is already a worthwhile affair for many.

It was the first time they were here in Singapore for a live performance, and words alone just can't express how good the concert was...

the early crowd rushing in first (no worry, it's not free-seating ><)

I actually heard about the group coming to SG a month & half ago from my Japanese Club. They were saying how it will be so hot, tickets will be selling like pancakes. So I wasted no time at all booking mine.
A purchase of a ticket of near $40 got me a seat just mere 4 rows away from the stage. Near enough to see if any of the performer were digging their nose ><. In fact, I was so early in booking that nearly any seat was available for my picking, even the godly front row that kiasu people will kill for. However, I am a firm believer that for any show, don't choose the very front row - "too front lah, cannot see properly".

inside the concert hall;
did I see 'white spirits'? nah, just stains on my lens

Zip back to the actual day. PASSION began at 8pm in Victoria Concert Hall. I had only been there once, and it was way long ago for me to recall anything to do with it. Anyway, I was to go alone, but instead my mother, aunt and two cousins tagged along cos they gotten free tickets. No, that has nothing to do with the crowd at pic above. My mother was working for one of the sponsoring company, so yea.

Needless to say, free tickets are pre-assigned seating so I still get to sit alone. Worst in this case was that the free tiks were the very last row.... way-back to the end, and at second floor to boot.
You definitely got to strain your eyes to see anything on the stage from that spot, but not all was lost for my family; they still get to hear the music live - for free.

First Half
Digimon Arrangement - Digimon
Is Kirite burning up? - Kirite
Victory Fanfare - Final Fantasy XII
Sakura - Xenosaga II
Dream of the shore Bordering Another World - Chrono Chross
Pain - Xenosaga
Princess Mononoke - Princess Mononoke
Laputa, Castle in the Sky - Laputa, Castle in the Sky
Nocturne - Kirite
Radical Dreamers ~Without taking the jewel~ - Chrono Chross
Tango Jalousie - classical piece
Super Mario Brothers - Super Mario Brothers
Whole New World - Aladdin

Second Half
Sailing to the World - Sailing to the World
The Azure - Kirite
Mai - .hack//Liminality
Free Bird - Haibane Renmei
Hungarian Dance - classical piece
Sunlight Earth - Shadow of the Colussus
When You Wish Upon A Star - Pinocchio
Dance Macabre - classical piece
Two Of Us - Shoot the Violist
Chrono Cross - Time's Scar - Chrono Cross
A Song of Storm and Fire - Tsubasa Chronicle

Bonus(encore-unlock)
? theme - Secret of Mana

The abovementioned list is the rundown of the pieces played. They were all brilliantly performed by the group, though not all were so memorable imo.

members of Eminence: (from leftmost - Natalia: piano, Joshua: percussion, Ayako: violin, Zane: guitar, Yura: violin)

While I was sitting among other fans for the concert to begin, I 'eavesdropped' over other people's conversation. It seemed that "Chrono Cross -Time's Scar" & "A Song of Storm and Fire" were the very much anticipated pieces While I haven't had much recollection of the former, I had to agree that the Tsubasa Chronicle track was gonna be a blast. Coincidently, the two pieces were the last to go.....'saving the best for the last' eh?

It took around 10mins after 8 for the thing to start. As soon as the Eminence group breezed in to the stage, they played the opening piece; a theme from Digimon game. It was my first time listening to it, but the way it was played; embarrassing to admit, I nearly sob in tears of joy. It was quite heart-warming, and I was surprised by my own reaction. They were really that good.

Ishikawa Ayako's autographing!

Now I have to paused this moment of wonderfulness for a while and insert this disclaimer;
'Please turn off your mobile phone during the whole event'. That is something we have heard for all public screening/play and are fully aware of. Fortunately, Singaporeans do have the courtesy to follow such simple etiquette. But I believe they should also have a follow-up to that statement; '...and also tape your children's mouth if necessary'. ><

(No thanks to toot Blogspot for screwing up my post, I have to rewrite about the brat ...wadever, summarizing it)
There was an annoying kid who was squeeing and making tons of strange noise in one of the nearby seats. To make matter worst, he was seated rather near the stage, so I had fear one of his moaning would reach the group and disrupt their performance. Fortunately, we are talking about professionals here, so it my worries came unfounded. But it didn't help that the brat was groaning for like, through 3 pieces, that heads were turning whever he started whining (must be bored).

Finally, his understanding father dragged him out of the hall (phew), but it was a pity he had to missed the next piece; the infamous Super Mario Bros theme!! Yep, that tune about the chubby red plumber who goes down huge pipes...^^
And as a surprise, the group put on santa claus hats just for that theme. Haha

guys, turn around for a smile please?

I did mention Yasunori Mitsuda was guest right? He did make his appearance, but only for selected titles. Mainly those of Kirite's. "Is Kirite burning up" was a personal favourite of mine, and I even bought the soundtrack after that, just to prove I really liked it LoL.

Apart from games' songs, there were anime themes. Disney classics like Aladdin were inserted within, and they were a welcome addition (anime = cartoon anyway imo). You know how "A Whole New World" is sung by Aladdin & Jasmine - well, instead of them, we got a beautiful violin rendition from Yura (Aladdin) and Ayako (Jasmine). Darn sweet~

For the classical pieces, well they were al-right. No big fuss from me over them. Though it is amusing to note that when it come to the classical ones, the violist would surely break a string or two without fail.

Finale was drawing closer, and very soon it dawned to us such good things were coming to an end. But not without the last two songs on the list... Yes, that two awaited tracks. Time's Scar and Song of Storm & Fire. GG. I was practically tapping my foot and humming away when they played those two amazing composition on stage. Wonderful.

2hrs long of live instrumental and it eventually ended. Screams from the audience for encore erupted and of course the group had to give in, playing something not on the list. Yura annouced it in his slang manner, so I could only make out what appears to be said as 'theme for Secret of Mana'. I played the game, but I just couldn't remember anything about it. It is bonus goodies anyway, so who cares wht.

PASSION page with Mitsuda's signature! + Kirite soundtrack

To commerate this event, I even got signatures of all the performers. Actually it is only kudos to my fiery aunt who fought through the queue, that I had my paper signed. ^^

I also purchased the Kirite album, costing $45. It was actually bought out of a whim, so I didn't had time to get it autographed by Mitsuda himself. Pity. The good thing is it turned into a christmas present from my aunt as she decided to pay it for me. Nice~

So that was the entry on my first Game/Anime musical outing! If there is another event such as this, care to join me? ><

CHRISTMAS 2006....are you celebrating?

It has been a busy period of days. And today is Christmas.

Public Holiday = Good
Public Holiday DURING School Holiday = darn it (bohua)

Busy as I am, my daily stuff including this blog has been neglected. I was supposed to blog about my great experience in the PASSION concert two days ago, but haven't had the time to. I will do it, probably tml, so stay erm..tune? for that.

So it is Christmas anyway, and it is a jolly festival. I am among the people living in tropical Singapore, so there won't be a white christmas for us (no snow). Instead we get rain, lots of rain. It nearly isn't as bad as most people would put it, but then again, I think we know I actually like rain (me-ish-wierdo).

For me during Christmas season, it is some house visiting and eating with fellow relatives and friends. I do know many people actually don't celebrate whatsoever, but it is okay. You don't miss out on anything NOT celebrating.
Though I still feel, since it is like once a year event thingie, we should at least make an effort to do something 'special', or romantic to make the day actually eventful, for yourself and whoever you are sharing the day with.

Sucks though, I still do not have a darling girl I can pamper on for christmas. Maybe next year?

Speaking of which, I haven't make my Christmas wish yet! I do believe I know what to wish for, eh? *grin*

Now, before this special day ends, let me wish you all readers:

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Haircut Day >_>

So I cut my hair today at a particular salon in Plaza Sing. My hair was way past longer than what I had accumulated in my entire life, so it was time to cut...just in time for christmas. As expected, I had to wait at least half-hour for my turn, due to immense booking (coming-christmas lah).

The haircut was pretty neat, but my mum + cousin requested for the stylist to leave my hair slightly long, and the result was more of a trim than a total cut-over. My hair is definitely shorter now, but cos it is still 'long', I highly doubt when I return to sch a week later, my peers would notice I actually had a cut... wadever.

Here's a pic of my hair (messed-up ver. @ home)

gosh.. I sure look like an idiot ><

As it is only days away to christmas, it is a standard to have shopping malls stay open till the wee-hours of the night, and this year is no exception. After getting my haircut done, my mum + aunt and her two daughters (my dearest cousins ^^) had me tagged along and do some late-night shopping.

There was a Comic Connection branch in PS, and as I had the 'otaku' blood flowing within me, I obviously disappeared for a while from my family - only to come back 20 mins later with an additional bag of comics...

Clement's Inventory::
+ D.Gray-man vol9 (x1)
+ SOUL EATER vol3 (x1)
+ SOUL EATER vol4 (x1)
+ CHROME BREAKER vol1 (x1)
BONUS::
+ Dengeki Tora Mini Collections Figurine (x1 $10.50)

SOUL EATER (Death is on the cover weee!) + CHROME BREAKER + Bonus stuff box

YEAH for new volumes of SOUL EATER. Anything with 'Death the kid' is funny stuff. The bonus thingie was something I bought in impulse. I saw the box and although it had a price that was no way worth the product, it way-too cute for me to resist, and so I tossed it into the cashier bin just when I was paying out.

Dengeki mini-novels' characters (there's the violent Dokuro, cool Kino, red-headed Shana & someone else I ain't sure of )

The collection (pic above) consist of 8 lead characters from their respective novel series, and 1 secret character whom isn't shown at all. I am still wondering who could that be, though chances is it might be that girl from Hanbun Tsuki (Rika isit?).

Well, I didn't even bother to choose the box cos my lousy luck would just make picking useless. I didn't really have a preference either. All of them seems moe' enough, though Shana and Kino would be on the top of my list if I really, really needed to pick one. But I won't know who I gotten until I hit home later.... there was still more shopping to do~

Before I knew it, me and co. ended up from PS to Orchard road. The ladies were window-shopping for last minute presents for relatives, and me (the only guy) was just loitering around. Some stuff happened, then it was already after 11pm, that we finally decided it was time to go home. Not like there was any shops left open for us to browse, anyway.

MRT and cab combination was what it took me and my mum back home. Though tired, I had to open and see what I got from the bonus box thingie......is it Shana, Kino...or Dokuro???

And I opened the box to find her.........

mysterious shinigami Momo and her partner black cat Daniel!!

....Momo and Daniel from Shinigami no Ballad!! LUCK HAS NOT ABANDONED ME!!! Hahaa, not in the chance had I thought I would get her. She even comes with the chatty but cute Daniel sitting atop her shinigami scythe (which are both removable).

It had me grinning when I unwrapped her. Ah, the cheap thrill of 'whacking' random figurine boxes. Honestly, I was hopping for a Shana when I started opening it, but I am glad it turned out to be Momo. Probably most fave character among them, I guess. She and her cat now stand next to my monitor. ^^

Long night, and tomorrow I am to attend a Musical concert 'Passion' in Victoria Concert Hall. It is gonna be an exciting night again....

'New Day' aka 'My Holidays are Depleting!!'

Sweet couple right?! I shamelessly 'borrowed' this pic from riuva..(thks~)

And so there we have it; the much 'awaited' photo of that Syaoran & Sakura cosplayer I was talking about in my EOY post; if you had been paying attention. I swore they were keeping a low profile or something during the event, because had I seen them, I would have taken a picture of them myself with a blink of an eye. They had to sooo appear right in front of me, when my camera was at its worst form. Sly couple ><

I am still waiting for the snapshot I requested from dear Dempster, but he hasn't send my even a single kb worth of pictures he took yet. That include the one valuable picture of the same Syaoran carrying Sakura....darn Dempster, I dunno what's your prob, but hurry up and send it to me!! (LOL)
Since I dun have my own pics, I got to rip one from riuva.com. I said 'borrowed', but it is more of taking it without permission. Alright, I admit it. Thanks anyway. =D

My 2 weeks holiday actually begins today (or was it last sat?). Since this mean free time AWAY from school, I get to do my own stuff. Some meaningful stuff. Like making my very own rpg with rpgmaker xp. Yea.

Right now I got the 3 playable characters' face portrait concept done, and with several random bits of story for the game, which is to be titled "TokeNight". Token+Night. Lots of ingame Token-action. Hmm, interested? How about a little bit on what it is all about?

Keefe is the protagonist, and he is a somewhat experienced Token Knight, or T.Knight in common terms. The city he is in is actually filled with thousands of 'tokens'; each residing in living beings' body, most commonly in humans. The general population cannot see them, thus they do not know of the tokens' existence.

But these tokens do exist, and they each hides a particular power within them. And when used with the wrong intentions, the more powerful tokens can exhibit dangerous traits, which may put the city in danger. That is what the T.Knights exist for - to prevent such event from occuring. The T.Knights can roughly gauge the latent power of a token, and if it is deem dangerous, they are permitted to capture or destroy it. But there is a catch, as everything must be done at night, for only after sunset does the power of both tokens & T.Knights' power alike will be awaken.

Gwenda, school girl with a not-so-sociable attitude, has just moved into the neighbourhood. And for reasons unknown, she possess an one-of-a-kind rare token in her body. This has attracted a couple of T.Knights going on her trail, but none has managed to extract the unique token from her. For good or worst, with the help of his trusty animal-partner Neptune, Keefe eventually became the one to get to her first. Their fateful meeting will end up forcing them band together to combat a greater adversary that lurks in this very same peaceful city..

So that's a brief run-down of the game's background. I will see how much progress I can work out throughout the span of my 2 week holiday. Gambatte!!

Site Template Change

So here I am again. Another day, another entry. Am I going to blog every once per day? I hope so.
Yea, so I typical spent/wasted my whole Sunday afternoon fiddling with this blog's template and layout. Pretty stupid way of clearing a day. But changes there are! For all old-comers who haven't notice the new banner on this site, I recommend you on getting your eyes check =P

Blogspot's 'userfriendly' template formatting is actually anything but simple. I spent hours trying to debug certain codes (darn xml format) with the help of their HELP files, only to then realize their code-aid won't apply to my blog... cos my is not the original blogger, but BLOGGER BETA!! Argghhhh.

So mine was using the new format version. And old stuff won't work on it. It was bad enough that I had a rough time logging in earlier, due to the fact that I was actually attempting to log via their system specifically for the old Blogger. Silly me. Now I got to deal without their help section. Whoppee~

XML coding sux. But that's because I don't know how to read them. Sure, I am learning them in school, but it still sucks. Plus points for me being more of the artist persona than computer student. Anyway, most modifications of the template are more or less done and over with, so I am fine with stuff as of current. Though if anytime something look weird or broken in my blogsite......it probably has to do with my sloppy coding. Heh.

PS: Raining here. I love rain, though it is more for the cool wind than the water.

STAC EOY 06 Cosplay 'Resolutions'

Alright!!

4hrs of cosplaying photo-taking + admiring at expo, and it was nice to be there. Man, and just to think that if I haven't been doing some random anime-blog surfing the previous night, I would have totally missed out on this wayy-neat event o_O.

Rozen Maiden (mi likes SuiseiSeki)

Maybe not "wayy-neat" as I put it earlier, and I say why:

So it happened anyway, me myself going to my second cosplay fare (the first being cosfest 06). The event opened at 12pm, but as I was a 'big-shot', I took my time and only arrived after 1.30+. Though as important as I was, I could only enter the hall after paying my share of $12 admission fee. Hahaa, lucky I brought spare cash.

Ouran massage?!

Well, obvious jokes aside, I made the decision to come later only cos it is kinda of a 'general' knowledge that majority cosplayers attending such event would only appear mid-way through. Since this one ends officially at 6pm, I felt 2pm was a good timing to enter. Me = smart LoL

Shana & Ringo; strange (but pretty) combination

The same smart-me also ended up at the wrong exhibition hall when embarking into expo. I thought I was clever to follow the crowd of youngsters in front of me, since they were most likely heading for the same destination. Alas, after some boring walking, they instead led me to City-Harvest hall. They should have tried harder to get me lost for another 1hr or so, cos it was later at 3+ did I found out (to my horror) that there was 'unofficial' free admission to all. Random people were getting in for no cost at all.

Their reason? The ushers tending to the booth left to watch cosplay.... wht-the-heck, unfair, $12 refund me!! Pfft, at least on the bright side, I had a program schedule brochure which those free-loaders don't. HAHAA.

I would have been pleased with that statement, if only the schedule printed was actually carried out. No 'God Knows' performance that was stated in the brochure = phail.

I missed playing Ragnarok Online >_<

Anyway, cut the long story short, I typically went on a photo-taking spree while in the small hall. The crowd was there. But the venue wasn't big enough to fit everyone. So 30% got to be outside 'wandering' around. I switched sides from time to time, to be fair for the rest who wanted to get in.
Alright, maybe I exaggerated abit - but the fact doesn't change that the place was small, with a even smaller stage to go along with. Poor cosplayers had to put up standing on that pathetic (looks like make-shift) stage, coupled with prizes (winner = anime vcd?) that even I could have come up with something better and more worthwhile..

School Rumble shoot-out!

Photo-taking for me didn't start off smooth at first, as I was VERY concerned of my surroundings; fear of getting my head/body in some other camera scope, blocking others' camera while working on my own photo-snapping.
I did gradually got used to it, and thankfully, the cosplayers were (or seem) patient and kind enough to let humble/slow people like me to take nice pics. Still, I seldom got myself good angles for the photos - unlike my friend who could just dive straight-front of any existing cameraman and took pics from there. =)

Naruto - gathering of ANBU

So 4hrs worth, I managed to accumulate a total of 28 shots of different groups/individuals. That exclude photos of same cosplayers but with different poses. Great thanks to my camera battery going dead one hr before 6, I was unable to snap a shot of every single cosplayer there. However, if I were to compare this performance with Cosfest's case, this one wins. You see, my battery died straight at the opening of Cosfest.....

not sure what they are, but cool regardless

Well, more misfortune comes along, this time in the form of my lousy photo-taking. Many of the cosplayers that got shot by my camera gun weren't up to their nicest (sweetest) form. Sorry, my bad. =(

Suzumiya Haruhi ftw! (I personally like this cosplayer ^^)

Cosplay of Nagato Yuki ~sweeett~

Still, I got pretty much of the pictures I wanted. Not bad. Several of the cosplayers were really cool; the ones I especially like most were the cosplayers for Yuki and Haruhi of same series - Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Haseo of .hack was really nice too. And so was Shana, as with the whole lot of Air Gear cast. And...and... erm, just so many to name, and sooo little time to admire. That is why equipping oneself with a trusty camera (or hp, your choice) is a must - it is this kind of situation where you need to do photo-whoring.

Agito & Akito; maybe I am seeing double..

Then, of course...there were the not so good ones. But I know, I know, they did their best too, and I sure appreciate their participation. Think about it, if I were to cosplay, I would have been a cmi case. So I won't say much regarding cosplaying issues. Heh.

Haseo-kun (RENGEKI!!)

All things had to end somewhere, and this was no exception. The thing I really, really regretted not taking a photo of was the mini-scene where Tsubasa Chronicle Syaoran had his beloved Sakura carried in his arms (no, I ain't referring to the other 2 SxS pairs that were present as well). That was soooo sweet. It puzzled me to no end why did they not participate in the couple competition? Swift victory would have been theirs to behold! Now to just grab the photo my friend took of them at the last minute...
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, to be honest, EOY wasn't as great as the earlier Cosfest I went. A bit of a disappointment if I were to compare (I even had to pay!), but I haven't lost hope for this. In fact, I actually look forward to the next cosplay event, and when it comes, I will have a belt packed with batteries to reload and back up for unlimited shooting! Next cosplay fair, here I come!!

Nyan~~

Ahem.. Dark Koji signing off.

My Blog's Debut!!

Hiiya to my readers! 'kay, it's not like there is anyone reading it, but still is good to greet~

My first entry to this blog, and just thought I would drop by and post something. This blog 'Blue Minute' (a name I kinda came up with during that minute.. =P), was created on 15 Dec 2006. That was yesterday, if you haven't been recently following the dates.

This isn't my first time blogging, but it truely has been quite some time since my last blog experience. I only decided to get my hands on blogging after being 'inspired' by my peer Jun Hong while he was attending to his own blog. <- Yea so, the creation of this blog has no real reason whatsoever.

Nevertheless, since I have dived into this realm of digital diary once again, I will take my time to do occasional entries heh. Blogging contents? Less on my daily life, and more focus on my interests. What interest you ask? You shall find out soon enough *wink. Right after I get this site layout revamp to my liking first...

Anywayyyy... I gotta get myself ready to go out. Gonna see some cosplay exhibition~
